Venture Capital Business

We invest extensively in promising startups. We focus particularly on ventures that are expected to create business synergies with NTT Group companies. The technical expertise gained through these investments is then fed back to the NTT Group, enhancing our collective capabilities.

Investment targets Approx. 130 companies (As of FY 2022)

Value Delivered to Clients

NTT FINANCE invests in leading domestic and international venture companies and funds, generating capital gains and realizing new technologies and businesses through these ventures. NTT FINANCE also facilitates collaboration opportunities with venture companies for NTT Group (NTT East, NTT West, and NTT DOCOMO, NTT Data) and promotes the integration of external innovations.

Leveraging established relationships

By capitalizing on our established relationships with financial institutions, we invest not only in key areas of focus for our group companies but also in new, non-core territories. We also connect our investees with group companies to support demonstration pilots and provide new business advice, thereby enhancing the value of these enterprises.

Left side of the diagram: The objectives and strategy of the VC business include creating collaboration opportunities between NTT FINANCE and venture companies. Financially, the goal is to achieve capital gains through the sale of portfolio companies. Center of the diagram: The investment policy and targets focus on sectors related to NTT FINANCE, with strong VCs investing in middle to late-stage companies, The main investment areas include Israel, Japan, the U.S., and Asia. Right side of the diagram: Investments involve collaboration with NTT (such as providing support for venture companies in Israel), direct investments, and the creation of collaboration opportunities (such as introducing portfolio companies to group companies).

Aiming for both strategic and financial returns

As the sole financial entity within the NTT Group, we leverage insights from our extensive financial expertise and approximately 25 years of investment experience to evaluate investment opportunities that align with specific objectives. Our strategy integrates 'strategic returns'—focused on acquiring technological expertise and fostering collaboration—with 'financial returns' derived from the sale of equities, thus optimizing both aspects of our investment approach.

Upper side of the diagram: Enablers (technologies and resources) This includes Universities, National research and development corporations, business companies, investors such as VCs, and business companies that provide a flow of returns (funding). Center of the diagram: Players (Start-ups) The process involves creating deep-tech (technology seeds) → Pre-seed → Seed → Early → Middle → Later → EXIT (IPO/M&A) → Serial entrepreneurship. Lower side of the diagram: Enablers (business environment) This includes lawyers (incl. those specializing in intellectual property), incubation facilities operators, and business companies (collaboration in the scale-up phase).

Investing in Emerging Deep Tech

In addition to investing in funds with definite time horizons, we also make direct investments, enabling us to seek returns from a long-term perspective. This approach allows us to invest in areas that require time to commercialize offerings and achieve collaboration, such as Deep Tech aimed at solving major social challenges.

Portfolio Overview

We have invested in a wide variety of startups with high growth potential.
